David has been a member of the BTMA for eight years and has continuously supported their work.
After a very challenging number of years, where we have seen supply chains stretched and inflation running at levels not seen since the 70’s, we now find ourselves in a new environment. A shift in work attitude post-pandemic has seen a skills shortage in manufacturing.
The focus during the next two years of his presidency will be to work alongside BTMA technical members and local schools and colleges to create bespoke engineering training, relevant to industry.
“At almost every meeting we discuss the lack of skills and training, that can be said for every industry out there, the fact is there is a shortage of labour, never mind skilled labour. Unless we promote our industry as dynamic and interesting the small pot of people with the right aptitude and attitude are likely to choose another route We must take responsibility to identify the correct training relevant to our industry“
David Brown, Managing Director of NEIDA and president of the BTMA
For those purchasing turned and Milled Parts, the UK supply chain has never been as important as it is now, disruption to the global supply chain by pandemic, war and even a blockage to fo the Suez Canal reemphsizes the importance of a viable secure supply base.
