After an illustrious career spanning nearly five decades, Simon Fisher is stepping into retirement. Simon’s journey, marked by dedication, resilience, and leadership, has left an indelible mark on NEIDA and the people he has worked with. As he prepares to embrace this new chapter, we take a moment to reflect on his remarkable career and future plans.
Simon Fisher began his career in December 1974, bringing with him a strong educational background with an HND in industrial management. His professional journey started at Kenwoods, where he worked in the design office. Despite Kenwoods going into administration in 1992, Simon’s leadership shone through as he navigated the company through challenging times.
In 1999, Millway Engineering was established. Simon joined Millway Engineering and played a pivotal role in its growth and development. In 2005, Millway Engineering was acquired by NEIDA, marking the beginning of Simon’s 19-year tenure at NEIDA. Over the years, Simon’s focus on core skills and investment transformed NEIDA into a thriving hub of innovation and expertise. His ability to adapt to changes and drive progress has been a cornerstone of his career.
Simon’s tenure at NEIDA is described as the best years of his career. He has watched the company grow, focusing on enhancing skills and investing in advanced machinery. His adaptability and leadership have been instrumental in navigating the numerous changes and challenges faced by the company.
One of Simon’s proudest achievements is the development of the people at NEIDA. Over the years, he has trained approximately 100 individuals, many of whom have progressed to become directors, managers, supervisors, and skilled engineers. His impact on their careers and lives is a testament to his commitment to mentorship and professional development.
Reflecting on his time at NEIDA, Simon cherishes the memory of seeing the company evolve over the past 19 years. The focus on skill enhancement and machinery growth has been particularly fulfilling for him. Watching his colleagues grow and develop their skills has been a source of immense pride and satisfaction.
Simon’s greatest achievement at NEIDA lies in the people he has trained and mentored. His guidance has helped shape the careers of many, contributing to the company’s success and fostering a culture of continuous improvement and excellence.
As Simon transitions into retirement, his plans are centred around family, consulting, and giving back to the community. He plans to move to Exeter to be closer to his family and is exploring opportunities to volunteer with a charity focused on helping individuals with special needs. Additionally, Simon will continue to offer his expertise to NEIDA in a consulting capacity, ensuring that his wealth of knowledge and experience remains accessible to the company.
Simon’s career has not been without its challenges. Health issues and the transition from Kenwoods to Millway Engineering and later NEIDA posed significant hurdles. The period of uncertainty and hard work during these transitions was particularly challenging, but Simon’s perseverance and determination saw him through these tough times.
Simon Fisher’s retirement marks the end of an era for NEIDA. His leadership, dedication, and passion have left a lasting legacy. As he embarks on this new journey, the entire NEIDA community wishes him the best. His contributions will be remembered and celebrated for years to come.
