After completing her A-levels, Phoebe joined us in 2019.

Like many students her next major decision was to decide the best pathway for her career – be it in the workplace or at university.

After completing two weeks of work experience in the commercial department at NEIDA, Phoebe enrolled on a BTEC Level 2 NVQ Business Administration course locally at Newcastle College.

“The opportunity of work experience at NEIDA confirmed that the ideal route for me was to achieve an industry-recognised qualification by continuing my learning and starting a career in business“

NEIDA has Mechanical and Electrical Engineering apprenticeship schemes at our manufacturing sites in Stoke-on-Trent and the Isle-of-Wight.

This is NEIDA’s first Business Administration Apprenticeship collaboration.

Phoebe’s expected course completion date was December 2020 but, like the majority of students during 2020, the course was delayed due to the situation caused by COVID-19.

As a result, the assessment and learning methods changed drastically – especially with the distinctive rise of e-learning, whereby mentoring was undertaken remotely and on digital platforms

“Completing coursework and assessments from home was difficult without the guidance and structure of being in both college and the workplace. However, regular planned contact with my college assessor and mentor at NEIDA helped me to achieve my targets and complete my course by March 2021.“

Covering various course modules – from organising events to the principles of customer service – has enabled Phoebe to grow in confidence and utilise her new skills within the workplace.

“I have also been able to supplement my own personal development in addition to my NVQ Modules by completing a St John’s Ambulance training course and I am now qualified to perform first-aid in the workplace. I have also completed STEM Ambassador training to support local students.“

As a full-time commercial administrator, responsibilities such as office administration and customer support will be invaluable in helping our business grow.

So, what is next for Phoebe?

“I would like to continue my career at NEIDA and progress within the business, growing my confidence and experience by taking on more responsibility with the commercial department.“
